It is Time for the Milwaukee Brewers to Turn the Corner and Become a Contender

Milwaukee got a taste of success a few years ago and now nothing else will do. 2009 was disappointing because they did not make the playoffs, but this is team that has a lot of talent and with one nice little run, can make a dent at getting into the post-season again. They were a hair shy of .500 last season and just need a small push to get back into contention this season.
The pitching rotation has plenty of promise. More than likely, the top of the rotation will feature Yovani Gallardo. This is a 24 year old that has an enormous upside. While we cannot call last season a breakout season, there were a lot of hopeful signs that he is well on his way to becoming a true Ace. You can probably count sub 4.00 ERA pitchers on your two hands and he was one of them. He is getting deep into games and another pitcher who gives his team a chance when he has the ball.
Another starter that could shore up this staff is Randy Wolf. After spending the bulk of his career in Philadelphia, he has spent the last few years as a hired gun. He had a chance to get settled into a regular spot in the rotation last year for the Dodgers and rewarded them with a great season. More offensive support would have netted him close to 20 wins. He is a solid number two starter for the Milwaukee Brewer

Offensively, this team is going to go deep fairly often. Prince Fielder seems like he gets better every year and continues to prove that his 2006 season was no fluke. He improved to hit 50 home runs in 2007 and while he did not hit that mark last season, he had a higher average and more RBI's that he has ever had. He is showing a lot of maturity at the plate and is one of the true sluggers in baseball.
In addition to having Fielder knocking them out all over the place, Ryan Braun will be providing plenty offensive fire power. He is consistently providing 30 or more homers every season, but continues to improve his other offensive numbers. Expect more RBI's and more home runs from Braun in 2010 as he will now be in his 4th major league season.
The Milwaukee Brewers have the perfect combination of experience and youth to really go a long way this year. There is just enough power to put the fear of god into the opposing team and enough speed to create some havoc on the base paths. The true test will be the bottom half of the rotation and if just one of those pitchers can step up, Milwaukee will see a huge improvement over what they put up on the board last season. The early season schedule will be challenging as fans are going to see some great ball players, but if this young team stands its ground, the Central division is going to be in for a rude awakening.
