The Chicago Fire became an official team as Major League Soccer entered its third season. The team's name alludes to the Great Chicago Fire, honoring all the lives that were lost in the tragic event. Watching a Chicago Fire game will never be a tragic event as the team moves like fire, producing a very talented display of energy and sportsmanship.
Twelve years old now, the team has picked up a new coach, Carlos de los Cobos. The new coach has to become acquainted with the rules of this league, as he was the former Salvadorian coach. Cobos expects that he will pick up the differences between the two leagues very quickly and he is eager to lead the team to victory. While he is very interested in winning, he is also interested in pleasing the fans, so it is safe to say that any game the Chicago Fire is playing in will be an exciting one.
Exciting games are nothing new to the fans of Chicago Fire, though. The Fire's ferocity has helped them to win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup four times and the MLS Cup Championship once. The team accomplished all this in just ten seasons, so it will be no surprise when this team keeps raking in the honors and awards.
It was in 1998 that Coach Bob Bradley led the Fire to winning two domestic titles in the same year. Dave Sarachan took over in 2002 and just continued to bring in the titles, making the Chicago Fire a force which is to be reckoned. Over the years the team has picked up new coaches and each has shared their skills with the team, which helps make it one of the best in the league.
Originally, the team was moving all over Chicago to play their home games. From Soldier Field to Cardinal Stadium then back to the renovated Soldier Field. The team now marks its territory in the newly built Toyata Park. While 20,000 seats may seem like a lot of seats, it may not be able to hold all the die-hard soccer fans that this team attracts.
The team is comprised of international superstars from such places like Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Poland. In 2007, Mexican Cuauhtemoc Blanco joined the team, bringing an interesting creativity to the position of attacker that drives opponents to both amazement and fear. With so many players with such different backgrounds, this team is able to come up with such a display of skill that fans cannot get enough.
With such all-time greats as Ante Razov, who as of October 22, 2009 scored 76 goals, every game is guaranteed to be an exciting game. With plenty of games coming up soon, it would be best to check the Internet when the team is playing home, or for the fans that moved, away. A legendary fire mixed with international superstars can provide entertainment suitable for an entire family, so no individual should be upset about missing one of the exciting games that this great team plays.
