The Past

A football program that has been around for well over a century(119 years). A team that has played over 1000 football games with a better than average record. Ranked in the top 25 in history in both wins & winning %. They play their home games in a stadium named after a former head coach(Fred Folsom).

27 past bowl appearances with 12 wins & 15 losses. That's about the only time period the Buffalo program has a sub .500 record except for the current run from 2006-present. In 1990, with head coach Bill McCartney at the command, Colorado won it's first & only national title. They did have to share it with Georgia Tech though.

Recently, Colorado decided to make a move to another conference by invitation. After being a member of the Big 12 for years Colorado is moving to the PAC-10 beginning in 2012.

Past Alumni Players

The Buffaloes has numerous notable former players. Some are still playing at the next level while others are no longer able. Some of the more notable current pro players are a kicker, a defensive end, & a RB. In more recent years, one current NFL player(Chris Brown) was well known for his running days while at Colorado.

There were also some very notably former Buffalo & NFL participants. Retired players include a former Heisman winner(Rashaan Salaam, 1994). Also, a former RB(Eric Bienemy) that was third for Heisman back in 1990. A QB(Kordell Stewart) that has quite few of the all-
time passing records at Colorado.

Past Teachers On The Field

Have you ever heard of a team being run without a head coach? Well, that was the case for the first 3 years of their football program. The first coach(Harry Heller) wasn't named until 1894. A head coach(Fred Folsom) for 3 separate times had a stadium named after him for excellence.

The most famous Colorado coach(Bill McCartney) was also the winningest coach in school history. Over 13 years, he coached in 153 total games with a winning percentage of over 60%. Also, finishing on top of college football back in the 1990 campaign. McCartney also seen some pretty solid players during his coaching days while on the field.

The current head coach(Dan Hawkins) is under a lot of scrutiny. He is well below .500 in his 4 years of being head coach.

Past Achievements(Player & Coach)

An early years(1937) Heisman candidate in Byron White placed 2nd. A running back(Rashaan Salaam) that won multiple awards back in 1994. The top award for being voted the best player in college football(Heisman). The other two for being the best RB & best overall college football player. Also, a former QB great in Kordell Stewart that finished in the top 15 in the Heisman ballot in 1994.

A more recent Heisman candidate(Chris Brown) in 2002 finished in the top 10(8th) in the running.

Also, an award given to the best Colorado football coach(Bill McCartney) in school history. Not only for Colorado but voted the best college football coach during the 1990 football campaign.
